DURABLE LOW MAINTENANCE BALUSTRADES

Allianz Parque – popularly known as the Palestra Itália Arena – is a multipurpose stadium in São Paulo, Brazil, with 43,600 covered seats. Its refurbishment was completed in November 2014. The stadium was built to host shows, concerts, corporate events and, especially, the football matches of Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras, the site’s owner.

About the project
The roof of the arena is fully integrated into the façade, which resembles a wicker basket. This is not only a stunning architectural statement, but also highly practical. A tubular metal frame and zipped thermos tiles ensure natural ventilation, and decrease the temperature difference between pitch level and the upper seats. They also reduce penetration of street noise. Around the pitch, a transparent polycarbonate cover was installed to allow maximum sunlight in.

More than 2,000 metres of Easy Glass® Slim and Easy Glass® 3kN were installed inside the arena, ensuring not only safety but also unimpeded views. The owner’s requirement for durability and low maintenance is certainly answered by the glass balustrade systems selected.

In 2014 Allianz Parque received the Master Award at the Grand Prix of Corporate Architecture, one of the most important architectural awards in Latin America.
