In 2016, a high-spec contemporary private residence was completed on the prestigious Willowhayne estate, just 50 metres from the beautiful West Sussex coast. On entering the building’s gracious atrium, you immediately become aware that this is no ordinary home. It has a light and airy design that is enhanced by a glass stair railing created using the Easy Glass MOD 0747 system from Q-railing.
The house, set in grounds of around 2,000 square metres, provides generous accommodation spread over 2 levels. It includes 3 reception areas, 5 bedrooms with walk-in wardrobes, 6 en suite bathrooms and a large heated swimming pool. After passing through the electric gates, visitors reach the house via a long driveway. The building’s impressive glass entrance gives way to a spacious atrium, which in turn connects with the living room, dining room, kitchen, study and leisure area. Upstairs, the south-facing master bedroom is a particular gem. From there, you can pass through a set of bi-fold doors onto a glazed balcony with sea views.
In the atrium space, the Easy Glass MOD 0747 and Easy Glass Slim systems from Q-railing take centre stage. The oak steps of the staircase appear to float upwards, thanks to the MOD 0747 high-grade stainless-steel glass adapters with pointed fixings. To complete this graceful effect, the glass stair railing blends perfectly into a glass balustrade on the galleried landing. This is achieved using the Easy Glass Slim system with fascia-mounted aluminium base shoes. The stair railing and the safety barrier on the upper storey both have 15 mm toughened glass and 42.4 mm cap rails.
Having worked with Q-railing previously, installer Moss Fine Homes knew the company would be able to provide a railing solution that perfectly answered the customer’s exacting requirements as regards quality, sense of space, transparency and modernity. Working in close co-operation, Moss Fine Homes, architect Mick Morris and Q-railing developed a detailed design for the feature staircase and landing. Subsequently, an additional design was developed for the balcony, which also incorporated a Q-railing balustrade. This made use of the stainless Q-line posted system, and incorporated 10 mm toughened glass panels held by MOD 28 glass clamps. All of the posts were pre-fixed by Q-railing. Because of the proximity to the sea, the stainless-steel parts of the balcony railing were supplied with a 316, mirror-polished surface, which will help to protect against salt and other corrosive substances.
