In Perth, Western Australia overlooking the city and Swan River is Kings Park. The park is set on 400 hectares of land, fifty percent made up of native bush. The city and river views are stunning. To enhance the park experience the Lotteries Federation 620 meter Walkway was constructed. The walkway is a journey through the park’s history in relation to Indigenous and European culture. Artwork and construction materials augment the natural setting enabling visitors to appreciate the importance of conserving biodiversity, the cultural and natural heritage and the geographic features of the surrounding landscape.
About the project
Part of the walkway is a 52 meter arched glass and steel bridge. It is suspended among a canopy of tall eucalypts. The architects chose d line for the daring steel structure with the glass balustrade. Customised d line block adapters and 120 meters of stainless steel handrail and matching handrail brackets were installed.
