In the 1820’s local entrepreneurs developed tunnels and pools in Ilfracombe, along England’s beautiful North Devon coast. It transformed the small fishing village into a popular seaside tourist resort. Nowadays it is still known for its beautiful coastline and beaches and is home to the unique Tunnels Beaches wedding venue. In March 2017, our Easy Glass Max glass balustrade system was installed on a terrace at this unique location, delivering safety and uninterrupted sea views.
The Tunnels Beaches wedding venue is guaranteed to make the big day totally unforgettable. A tunnel through the cliff leads to a private beach and the venue itself: a timber-clad building with curved modern lines. Its large, first-floor and roof-top terraces offer unparalleled views of the sea. Architect Rob Crocker of the RGP practice designed frameless glass balustrades for the edges of both areas, selecting our Easy Glass Max system for the job. When specifying the project, we recommended 25.52 mm toughened laminated glass. As a result, the finished glass balustrades are capable of withstanding impressive forces, providing wedding guests with unbeatable fall protection.
Must-have glass balustrade
The venue owners specifically asked for a frameless balustrade system so as not to impair the stunning sea views. The Easy Glass Max glass balustrade was the perfect choice in this respect too. It was used to create protective barriers with absolutely nothing other than glass visible above the slimline base shoe. The system was also flexible enough to allow installation in a sweeping curve of individual panels.
In total, WM Ironworks Limited installed 35 metres of our product. That included a wall-mounted, stainless steel handrail on the main staircase as well as the frameless glass balustrades on the terraces.
