This is a German abbreviation referring to “General Building Inspectorate Approvals”. An ABZ must be granted for any construction product or method that is covered by the scope of state building codes but departs from technical norms. It may be that no regulations have yet been established for the product/method in question, or it may differ significantly from DIN standards. ABZs promote structural safety by clearly identifying those materials and techniques that are considered acceptable.
