Back in 2004, the city of Wil in the north of Switzerland first started to develop the concept for a multi-purpose sports and wellness location. Ten years later, in 2014, the vision came to life as Sportpark Bergholz opened its doors to the public. The centre houses multiple swimming pools, an ice hockey arena, a football stadium, a wellness centre, conference rooms and a restaurant, and is a true asset for the city and its residents.
About the project
Sportpark Bergholz is uncompromisingly modern, proudly displaying its functional qualities. And yet, the lines and forms of the structure are also pleasing to the eye. Its distinctive outline has become an architectural landmark on the edge of the city.
The contractor and the architect for Sportpark Bergholz were both committed to using Easy Glass Max. Quite simply, the immense strength of this system commands respect. It has been tested and certified in accordance with SIA 261:2010 category C. However, the aluminium base shoes are surprisingly small, which makes them easy to handle.
In total, around 600 metres of Easy Glass Max were installed, along with custom-made powder-coated handrails. Top and fascia mountings were used on both steel and concrete structures. The installers were able to significantly speed up installation thanks to Q-railing’s dry-glaze Safety Wedge system.
