Since 1913 the headquarters of Sparkasse Bonn has been situated at the “Friedensplatz” in the heart of Bonn, Germany. The bank first operated from a traditional building with a classic column entrance and then in 1957 moved to the corner of the square. At that time, the building was state of the art. However in 2009 the bank came to the conclusion that it could no longer live up to modern standards. Since a refurbishment turned out to be rather expensive, the bank decided on new development.
About the project
The original 7-storey building has made way for a new construction that not only houses the bank, but also incorporates various large department stores and a supermarket. The architectural design is focused on letting in light and air and functionality. The Easy Glass® Slim glass balustrade used for the roof terrace (around 100 meters were installed) is a perfect match to the building’s main requirements and to architectural features such as the stone façade and copious amounts of glass.
