In November 2017, a stunning new private residence was built in the heart of Muswell Hill – one of North London’s most exclusive suburbs. It is an area renowned for its striking examples of contemporary architecture, so the new residence made a fitting addition. The building has a straightforward, modern elegance that is greatly enhanced by the minimalist look of its Easy Glass View Juliet balconies and interior glass balustrades.
Although the Muswell Hill residence has clean, contemporary lines, it does not stand apart from its environment like some modern structures. It has a sense of connection with nature and with the surrounding built architecture. The facade of the ground floor and first floor is exposed brickwork – so typical of the London suburbs – while the second floor is clad in vertical timber boards. On all floors, Juliet balconies have been provided at windows. But because they are full glass structures, mounted directly onto the window frames and powder coated in a matching colour, they remain totally unobtrusive.
A sense of openness
Inside the house, rooms on all 3 storeys boast floor-to-ceiling windows. This makes for a feeling of light and openness. On the ground floor, one can step out through the lounge window onto a terrace. Full-glass Juliet balconies created with Q-railing’s Easy Glass View system ensure protection at the floor-to-ceiling windows, but without blocking the light or impeding the view. And the Juliet balconies are not the only glass features promoting a sense of space in the house. An internal staircase leads to the first floor where the 3 bedrooms are located, and then on to the top floor, which is home to a kitchen and leisure room. This staircase has a frameless glass stair balustrade mounted onto one side and around the landings. This helps to make the spaces seem open and airy while ensuring safety.
Safety without compromise
The Easy Glass View Juliet balcony system is certainly effective at allowing daylight into rooms, but it does not compromise on safety in any way. The Juliet balconies at the Muswell Hill house use panels of toughened laminated glass. They are supported by a slimline but highly robust aluminium profile that has been powder coated in RAL 7016 to fully match the window frames.
Easily installed Juliet balconies
Trinity Steel were selected to carry out the installation work. Mounting the 4 Easy Glass View Juliet balconies was quick and straightforward, the system’s unique click technology enabling rapid and ultra-safe securing of the glass. The internal stair balustrade incorporates Q-railing’s MOD 0747 glass adapters their minimalist design helping to provide large, uninterrupted areas of glass. The panels themselves are 17.52 mm toughened laminated glass.
