Great news: our latest innovation in glass railings, the Q-disc System for easy glass fixing and alignment, has received a Red Dot Design Award! The jury report states that ‘The Q-disc fixing system represents a new approach to installing structural glass railings, thanks to its sophisticated functionality and the resulting ease of handling.’ Q-disc helps to significantly simplify the installation of glass infills for glass railings and is incorporated in our Easy Glass Smart and Easy Glass Prime railing systems.
The Q-disc System consists of only three components – an inlay, a Q-disc and the Q-disc tool. The disc is for fixing the glass panel, while the inlay holds the glass and is used for quick and easy alignment of the infill. No need to apply force: all it requires is a simple turn using the Q-disc tool to fix a panel and an easy sliding movement using that same tool to align it. Furthermore, handy indication points on the Q-disc System show you correct start and end positions, and correct installation is confirmed with a reassuring ‘click’.
Glass thicknesses
The adjustable Q-disc System is available with Easy Glass Smart and Easy Glass Prime. In the case of Easy Glass Smart, you can use it with glass that is between 1/2" and 11/16” (12 - 17.52 mm) thick, whereas Easy Glass Prime lets you combine it with glass ranging in thicknesses from 3/4" all the way up to 1” (16.76 - 25.25 mm).
Floor surfaces are hardly ever level. That is why we offer shoe shims for Easy Glass Smart and Easy Glass Prime. But we also have adjustable Q-disc Systems available for both of those glass railings. They make it possible to realign glass panels by up to 0.6 degrees from the vertical when installing Easy Glass Smart, and by up to 1.2 degrees in the case of Easy Glass Prime. The glass alignment and fixing process can be completed in just 7 steps:
1. Place the inlay in the base shoe 2. Position the glass panel 3. Insert a Q-disc in each inlay – a ‘click’ will confirm that it is positioned correctly 4. Connect the Q-disc tool to the Q-disc and turn it clockwise to safely secure the glass 5. For any individual glass panels needing alignment, turn the Q-disc anticlockwise 6. Adjust the angle of a glass panel by connecting the Q-disc tool to the inlay in the base shoe and sliding it sideways 7. Re-secure the glass panel by connecting the Q-disc tool to the Q-disc and turning it clockwise |
Since 1955, industrial designers around the world have been striving to earn the prestigious Red Dot Design Award. Conferred by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany, the coveted Red Dot has become an internationally recognised quality mark.
